Tiburon, In My Opinion
This sleepy little fishing village just across the bay from San Francisco is the second-most affluent community in California. Tiburon is wealthier than Orange County, the Pacific Palisades, even Malibu. There’s a reason why California’s state motto is “The Golden State”. It attracts great wealth. Los Angeles has movie stars, but San Francisco attracts billionaire CEO’s. And Tiburon is where they go to get away from the city and enjoy a life of rustic luxury. It makes perfect sense. “Tiburon” is Spanish for “shark”. And you’ve gotta be one to get rich enough to live there. Think Tiburon looks too simple and rustic to be one of America’s richest cities? Not if you understand the true nature of the power that attracts all that money. An old millionaire I once knew shared the secret of his wealth with me. He told me that real power is invisible. It moves discreetly…unnoticed. The richest and most powerful people shun ostentation because it makes them a target for fortune hunters. They don’t want to walk around with an entourage of body guards, or live in an armed fortress. It’s why mafia dons live in plain old houses. They don’t attract attention to themselves. It’s enough just to know that they can have anything they want. Real power doesn’t want to be noticed. This is the American version of “old money” and “new money”. New money craves attention. Old money drives a Jeep. New money lives in Bel Air so it can be noticed. Old money lives in Tiburon, in quiet seclusion. That’s its appeal. They like it laid back and quiet…so quiet that I had a really hard time finding footage for it, hence the crappy music and talking in some of these videos. I try to find video that has no music and no talking so you can supply your own music if you want and pretend you’re really there. But it was either this or nothing. And it’s way too pretty to bypass, so if you can’t stand the music, just turn off the sound.
Exploring Tiburon
It’s a rustic little fishing village where people with real power and money can live the good life without attracting unwanted attention, and it invites you to walk everywhere every chance you get. It’s not the kind of place you want to drive past quickly. It’s the kind of place you visit and never want to leave. You never know who’s who in that unassuming coffee shop. You could be standing next to some of the richest, most powerful people in America and never know it, because they’re wearing a pair of old jeans and driving a Jeep. They don’t need mansions. They might just as easily have a nice little houseboat, or they live on a yacht. They’re not looking for notoriety. Their names are never in the news. They look and act like normal people so they can run to Starbucks for a cup of coffee, or take a spin on a motorcycle without being hounded by median. But they got to Tiburon because they’re sharks. The town is named “shark” for all the sharks that live in the bay. And just like sharks, you never see them coming.
Walk The Neighborhood
Move the mouse on top of the little gold man on the map. Hold down the left mouse button and you’ll see blue lines appear. Those lines are streets. Drag and drop the little man on top of the street you want and let go of the mouse button. The picture on the right will change to show you a view of that street along with the street name. Click the arrows on the street to “walk” around. Or you can double-click the street to walk if there’s an arrow under your cursor. Roll the middle mouse button to zoom in and out. That’s all there is to it. Now get out there and explore!
