I’ve been wanting to visit Amsterdam since I was a kid, and I read The Diary of Anne Frank. I always wanted to see the house where she hid from the Nazis. But beyond that, I wasn’t really interested in the Netherlands until I lived in Europe and I wanted to see more of it. I never physically got to Amsterdam, but doing is virtually is almost as good. This is a seriously happening city. And it manages to be a swinging place without being a filthy city. It’s absolutely lovely! But don’t sell the rest of the Netherlands short. The entire country is just beautiful, and it’s got some out-of-the-way spots that really surprised me. I can see why people from around the world are drawn to The Netherlands. It’s a beautiful country with a lot of great places to visit. And they enjoy a wonderfully high standard of living.
Exploring The Netherlands
So, why are there more walking vids than driving vids? Because like many places in Europe, their towns are wonderfully walkable. People don’t drive everywhere. They bike. They boat. They walk. And they take their time getting from here to there because everywhere is so doggone beautiful. Some of the little villages I’ve included here don’t even have cars. The people don’t need them. They never have. Everybody walks or boats the canals to get where they need to go…the way they’ve done for hundreds of years. It’s promotes a healthy lifestyle, and it keeps down the air pollution. What I love most about places like this is that people don’t just get out and walk because they have somewhere to go. They go out for a walk, just to get some fresh air.
Walk The Neighborhood
Move the mouse on top of the little gold man on the map. Hold down the left mouse button and you’ll see blue lines appear. Those lines are streets. Drag and drop the little man on top of the street you want and let go of the mouse button. The picture on the right will change to show you a view of that street along with the street name. Click the arrows on the street to “walk” around. Or you can double-click the street to walk if there’s an arrow under your cursor. Roll the middle mouse button to zoom in and out. That’s all there is to it. Now get out there and explore!
