The Big House

Owning a home was always the American dream. But owning a luxury home is the 21st-century American dream!

I’m a sucker for a pretty place. Probably because I’m the daughter of a frustrated architect. Architecture was Dad’s dream. Unfortunately, engineering paid the bills. But the dream never died. He’d drive me around the city, admiring all the fabulous homes he was never gonna build. I loved it. I really wanted to be that architect for him but sadly, I’m a graphic artist, not a mathematician. I can’t do simple arithmetic. So I still do our “drive-bys” in his memory. Dad taught me that just because a house is big doesn’t mean it’s tasteful. When form meets function, even a small home can feel luxurious. So let’s take a peek inside these luxury homes, big and small, to see how they measure up to big house tastes. And since this site is all about virtual reality, feel free to pretend it’s yours. That’s why I built this for VR. It feels like you’re really in the house. I’ll be rating these properties based on the following criteria:

01.

Architectural Attributes

Architectural features in the home that add great visual interest and draw the eye to its location, its attributes, or the ways in which it serves the overall look and feel of the space. In other words, what made you look? Was it the color, the design, its geometry or placement? Details baby…details!

02.

Effective Use of Space

A luxury home can’t always be big. Small spaces like high-rise apartments and condos don’t generally have a lot of space and they can’t easily be expanded. But a good designer can organize the available space to fit in luxury finishes without making it feel cramped or cluttered.

03.

Character

What is it about a house that makes it “cute”, “quaint”, “majestic”, or some other adjective that makes you lust after that one special house? I’m looking for all those wonderful, creative touches and details that the architect used to dress the home…the features that make it pop.
