The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys, In My Opinion

This little island archipelago off the southern coast of Florida is one of the hottest party spots in the United States. But every place has its drawbacks. In the Keys, it’s the hurricanes. Most of the time, it’s day after day of paradise. But when Nature calls, it’s pretty freakin terrifying. You really don’t want to be there when it hits the fan. The Keys aren’t just one place. There’s Key Largo, Key West, Fiesta Key, Sugarloaf Key, Duck Key, Boca Chica Key…there are so many lovely little places to play in the Florida Keys. Which is stupid, because Nature put the Keys where they are to serve as a buffer to shield Florida from hurricanes. So the last place you would ever want to be during a hurricane is the Keys. It’s not the wind that kills you in a hurricane. It’s the water. Storm surge basically brings the ocean into your living room, and it’s a pretty crappy way to die…scrambling up to your roof trying not to drown. Think “Katrina” without the Superdome. There’s nowhere to run. The only thing separating the Keys from the State of Florida one long, Long, LONG strip of highway that allows you to drive across all that water. It makes for 133 miles of absolutely breathtaking scenery as you work your way to Key West…the southernmost point in the United States. We’ll drive it here. But when you’re trying to evacuate before the storm hits, you’re gonna wish there was more than one road out of there. Other than that, this one road is the key to paradise, and all the awesome pub crawling you’re gonna do when you get there.

Walk The Neighborhood

Move the mouse on top of the little gold man on the map. Hold down the left mouse button and you’ll see blue lines appear. Those lines are streets. Drag and drop the little man on top of the street you want and let go of the mouse button. The picture on the right will change to show you a view of that street along with the street name. Click the arrows on the street to “walk” around. Or you can double-click the street to walk if there’s an arrow under your cursor. Roll the middle mouse button to zoom in and out. That’s all there is to it. Now get out there and explore!
