You may have noticed that a lot of the same dancers attend all these classes, since so many of them are in Los Angeles. Doesn't matter. A dancer is just a blank canvas. It's what the choreographer can pull out of them that makes the art. Tricia Miranda does that by taking Hip-Hop and B-Boying and putting some Afro-Latin "stank" on it. And she seems to attract a lot of dancers with bonafide classical dance training to her distinctly b-boy vibe, which makes what she does even more epic.

I admit…the whole dancing in stiletto heels thing is a mystery to me. Wearing them out on the town is hard enough. I can’t imagine learning to dance in them. But this is definitely a “thing”. It sharpens your sense of balance, and let’s face it…it makes your legs look amazing. Having you balance yourself in stiletto heels as you dance can only make your legs stronger. I suppose the upside is that you can wear stilettos to the club and actually dance instead of worrying that you’re gonna tip over an break a leg. And if you’re going out in drag, there’s just no better way to get comfortable doing your thing in stilettos than working it out in this class.

As you can see, Shemeka Ann is making her dancers work. You may have noticed that there aren't a lot of skinny girls in her classes. This is choreography for women with curves. You need something to work with. Big legs. ASS. It's choreography "for the rest of us"…the ones who jiggle when we walk. That's an idea whose time has come. I get that if you're dancing with a partner, the poor guy has to be able to lift you. But if you're not, I see absolutely no reason why skinny girls should have all the fun. Big girls are sexy too!

She's an Amazon. She's gotta be about six feet tall in heels, without an ounce of superfluous fat on her. She can kick your ass in those ridiculously high heels. But she can also do and teach African dance in them, so deal with it. Her classes are always jammed packed. Some of her students are established dancers. You'll see them in lots of people's videos. Others are just learning. But kudos to anyone who can survive her class.
