Facing Fear

VR Immersion Therapy to Conquer Phobias

You are witnessing a tornado go from rope to wedge in 60 seconds. This was the 2011 Joplin, Missouri tornado. To you, this may look cool, like something out of a movie. But if you lived there when this happened, you weren’t having any fun. This is my biggest fear…tornados. There’s nothing you can do to stop them. They’re just air. All you can ever hope to do is just get out of the way. Being a Missouri girl, tornados were just a fact of my life growing up in the Midwest. You only hear about Oklahoma and Texas, but Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois and Iowa encircle Missouri. It’s literally the heart of Tornado Alley. We all get our asses kicked by Nature on a regular basis. Every time I saw storm clouds, my stomach would cramp and my sphincter locked up like I’d lubed with Gorilla Glue. The sky turned puke green, the sirens would go off, and my guts would sink into my shoes. Somewhere near me, THE BEAST WAS LOOSE. Nobody knew it at the time this was filmed, but this particular tornado would kill over 200 people and flatten a hospital. Mother Nature is wildly beautiful, but make no mistake…she can be an evil bitch.
